11 DAY KENYA SAFARI

DAY 1: NAIROBI – SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

Pick up from Nairobi at 7:00am for a drive to the mystical, dry, rugged and stunning semi-desert; Samburu Game Reserve. We will arrive at camp with enough time to settle in before lunch with a little time to relax before we head out for our first game drive between 1600hrs to 1830hrs. Due to its remote distance and the fact that it was inaccessible for many years, the park has retained a naturally serene and quiet feeling. The reserve’s topography is mainly open savannah (grassland) with clusters of acacia trees, forest, thorn trees and grassland vegetation and the surrounding is an area of spectacular scenery with its dry plains bisected by the meandering life lung Ewaso Nyiro River that cuts through this reserve, drawing a big population of wildlife to the park.

Drive Time 5 hours

  • Main Destination: Samburu National Reserve
  • Overnight: Ashnil Samburu Camp (Luxury Tented Camp inside
  • Meals & Drinks: Lunch & dinner (Breakfast not included); Drinking water (Other drinks not included)

DAY 2: EXPLORE SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

The sunset of this hot and rugged game reserve can be fiery. Today we rise up early and enjoy our breakfast and by 6:30am we set out in the park in search of rare species of animals unique to the park, namely: the long-necked gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and Beisa onyx. Before it is hot, we return to the camp for lunch. You can opt to relax by the pool and watch when nature plays the afternoon trumpets or close your eyes and drift off into the African dreamland before we head out for our evening game drive between 1600hrs to 1830hrs. Look out for the elusive Kenya leopard that is often known to visit the park, especially in the evenings. Other wildlife present in the park includes cheetahs and lions, as well as elephants, buffalo and hippos. Besides, the park is a bird haven and boasts over 350 different species of birds including vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches and others.

To Note: Visit to Samburu Cultural Village

The Samburu are nilotic, semi-nomadic shepherds who live in north-central Kenya. Samburu people just like the Maasai tribe, still retain many of their traditions as they live largely untouched by modern day civilization, in areas surrounding Samburu National Reserve. This one hour visit to a Samburu village is a chance to interact with Samburu people and get a glimpse into their culture, unique way of life and see firsthand some of their customs and practices.

Host to all the members of the ‘Big Five’ (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard), the conservancy has a higher wildlife-to-area ratio than any Kenyan national park and is one of only four private game conservancies to have been founded in Kenya. At the forefront of the Kenyan conservancy programme, the conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, hosts the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya, and shelters large numbers of rare and endangered species.
